Also worth noting is that the update standard applies to each address, not to a specific list or mailing. When a customer contacts a business and is then added to a mailing list, the newly added address can “ride” with the list until the next update cycle.
There are a couple options available. The easiest and most cost effective is NCOALink. NCOA stands for National Change Of Address. This is the database maintained by the USPS of all the registered address changes and can only be accessed by licensed providers. If any addresses match they are updated prior tomailing and delivered to the
new address.
ABS is already performing this as part of our basic data processing services. We can also provide you with a printed or electronic report of all addresses that have been updated to easily incorporate these changes back into your database. Not everybody reports a change of address when moving nor is the address info always correct. In those cases for 1st class mail you will continue to receive those returns.
The good news is we are already running NCOALink on all automation rate mailings!
There is a simple form that we will need completed on a yearly basis. This form and additional instructions are linked below. Please complete and return to Billy Knudsen (billyk@absgraphics.com) or Craig Nelson (craign@absgraphics.com) at your earliest convenience.
When submitting a mailing we will need to know if you need a printed or electronic report of any changed addresses or if you want to use an ancillary endorsement or other method of compliance.
I realize this can all be a bit confusing so please don't hesitate to call or email me with any questions.
Thanks!
